A treasure rediscovered A long time ago, I used Mr. Davis’s Joshua commentary, “no falling words,” And just recently found him on sermon audio. I’ve listened to a couple of sermons. He is witty, scholarly and poignant.
God's Messiah Will Succeed Over All Opposition! Verses 1-3 remind us to "Understand Our World"--the extent to which the powers of the world are hostile to God and His people.
Verses 4-6 call upon us to "See a Throne"--as depressing as it can be to see how the world hates God and His people, we can be joyful by changing our focus. For though the world hates us, the world is the loser in the end. God's plan is to install His king who will reign forever with His subjects. And yes, God is derisive in His laughter at the imps who push back against His reign. The little mount of Zion is going to be the capital of His kingdom!
Verses 7-9 call us to "Hear a Plan"; the speaker in these verses is the king God has installed--most likely the Messiah/Anointed One! His rule is present, worldwide, and powerful beyond belief! Knowing this gives us great peace in tough times.
Verses 10-12; we need to "Trust the Gospel"! The kings of the world are given a binary choice. Submit to the Son and be protected--or be ruined forever! We _all_ are urged to bow to Him!
Great Sermon! Dr Thomas has been one of my favorite preachers over the years - straightforward, gives historical background and interesting details - and I thank God for him and for sermon audio so I can listen -
Great Sermon! Worthy of listening to several times. Dr Thomas has been one of my favorite preachers throughout my Christian life and I thank God for that.
Great Sermon! So relevant to todays issues and immorality - we have a blending of right and wrong, male and female, sin and righteousness- no credit to God - but God is the one allowing it and in the end He still prevails - may this be a warning to believe in the one and only true God.
Great Sermon! A must hear for everyone. Dr Thomas speaks about the sheep that Jesus knows. Nothing is more important than knowing you are one of Jesus’ sheep.
Great Sermon! I have enjoyed and benefitted much from Dr Thomas’ messages - may he enjoy his retirement and I thank him for the many years of faithful preaching.
Deep Deep Theology Francis Turretin in Volume 1 of his Institutes of Elenctic Theology has a helpful discussion/description of what is meant by the statement that “the Son is eternally begotten”
