God Hates Religion - Message 9 - Complaints of Conspiracy. In the midst of the five visions that conclude the prophecy of Amos, the message and the messenger are interrupted by Amaziah, the priest at Bethel. As Amaziah leads the people in the worship of a golden calf set up by King Jeroboam, he reports to the king that Amos is conspiring to kill him. Then he offers Amos a compromise, speaking as one professional to another, he counsels Amos to go back home to Judah where his message would be better received. Amos replies with a reminder that he is not a professional prophet - he has been called by God. And then he speaks the Word of the Lord to Amaziah condemning him for his sin. In the face of corruption and compromise, we too can find consolation in our call!
