Jesus Christ is King. That is not to diminish at all that He is indeed our Savior from the guilt and punishment of sin, but He has also been exalted by the Father to His right hand to be King and Lord of all. Many want Jesus as a loving Savior from sin and its punishment, but they do not want Him as a loving and just King and to rule over their lives by way of His holy commandments. That is forming a Jesus after our own imagination and not the Jesus revealed in Scripture that alone can save us and give us eternal life with Him. Unlike all other kings/rulers of the earth that receive their appointment through the mediation of fellow human beings, Jesus reigns as King of kings and Lord of lords by way of the direct appointment of God without the mediation of any man (Psalm 2). Jesus is a unique King, for He is both King of the princes of the earth (Revelation 1:5) and King of saints—King of His Church (Revelation 15:3). No one has been appointed by God to reign in the place of Jesus Christ upon earth, and yet we shall learn of a king in history that was prophesied to come here in Daniel 11:36 ff. that makes such a claim to reign in the place of Jesus Christ over the nations and over the Church.
