We read verse #1, see what the meaning is and walk away still wondering what does it mean? Faith means having confidence but it is only as strong as your confidence. Faith can be attached to many things but Biblical faith is what we are talking about and in need of clearer understanding. In our verse here we see the word "substance" or confidence. We have have faith expecting certain things to take place. Not just any old thing or 'something' but rather a certain or specific thing. And evidence is legal material that either proves or disproves. faith gives us a persuasion that is based on God's word. None of us have seen Jesus literally, yet God's word gives eyewitness accounts of Jesus as evidence. Why would so many die such deaths for a lie? They actually saw and heard Him and left us the evidence to keep us from having to use blind faith. And then there is the evidence that He has done in our lives faith put into action; life made worth living. Also faith is how we get saved; for by grace are we saved through faith. We couldn't do it on our own we needed Him. We need the faith that only He can supply.
