Members of the Scottish aristocracy, the two remarkable brothers, Robert and James Haldane, converted during the latter part of the 18th century, were at the forefront of the revival of serious religion in Scotland during the years that followed. These two wealthy brothers devoted their lives, and fortunes to the Gospel. Amongst other things, both were successful open-air preachers, and became prolific authors. They were also very instrumental in promoting the Baptist cause in Scotland. One notable Baptist historian called them 'The Wesley & Whitefield of Scotland'.
